multibib and citations within figure environment

Consider the following minimal working example:

\documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{scrartcl}

\usepackage{multibib}
\newcites{T}{Test}

\begin{document}
\begin{figure}
 \caption{Foobar~\citeT{fancy-publication}.}
\end{figure}

\end{document}

Using pdflatex will give you (at least) this error message:

Use of \@citex doesn't match its definition.

Unlike the original \cite command, \citeT (i.e. the newly defined version introduced by the multibib package) is not directly supported in figure environments. If you prepend it with \protect, everything will work as expected:

\documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{scrartcl}

\usepackage{multibib}
\newcites{T}{Test}

\begin{document}
\begin{figure}
 \caption{Foobar~\protect\citeT{fancy-publication}.}
\end{figure}

\end{document}
